Today its her birthday so and I've said that I will wish her Birthday on every possible media; so far I've covered Facebook, SMS, Fixed Phone, in person and public announcement/humiliation (bunyi je gempak.. sebenarnya just org sekeliling dalam lift and on escalator kita hebohkan dia birthday girl) and now as requested by birthday gal.. via my blog.

A Different Kind Of Book

Went to PC Fair today, man the place is jammed pack with people. However I don't want to comment much on the event, as this time round it is a quick operation for me. I just went there to buy a book and go home. Sounds weird huh buying books at PC Fair huh?

As pictured I did buy My Book but its is in actual fact an external hard disk drive. Specifically it's a Western Digital My Book Home Edition with 1 Terabytes of storage space. That's a whopping 1,000 Gigabytes; enough for 440 hours of DVD movies or 250,000 MP3 music files or 285,000 JPG photos. The fact figures are what is stated on the packaging box, but I'm sure everyone knows all is subject to type of compression and size of the media itself.

Like all gadgets I own, rarely will I buy something without doing "some" research on it. I choose this particular model for its multiple connection options (USB, Firewire & eSata) and auto power on/off function following your PC. The latter to me is a cool and practical functionality; one less thing to shut down and no need to worry of shutting down while the HDD is writing.

Package content includes (from left) the My Book ext HDD unit, USB cable, Firewire cable, power adapter and a quick install guide. Installing the My Book is very easy; just hook-up the data cable (I'm using Firewire for faster transfer speeds) and power cable, Windows will immediately identify the HDD and install automatically the driver. In Windows, you will see that the HDD is pre formated to FAT 32 and the total HDD space available is 931 GB.

This point forward I can use the HDD immediately just like another drive, but Western Digital also bundles some optional backup softwares (in the HDD itself); WD Anywhere Backup and Memeo Auto Sync. WD Anywhere Backup is basically a program which sort of mirror your PC content (content selectable) for backup, however it is not automated. So you would have to periodically remember to back up. The second software Memeo Auto Sync is very useful piece of software since it enables auto backup. Didn't install it as it is a trial version.

Design wise, I rather like it as it is sized similar to a paperback novel and it fits nicely on my book shelves (on the right of the monitor). Heat is not an issue as My Book has heat dissipation vents on top of its casing and a there is also a software (on your system tray) which monitors the HDD health and tempreture. The emitting lights at the front shall indicate accordingly; the HDD state whether the drive in use, on standby or power on/off.

Overall I'm satisfied with My Book; its form, practicality and price is well ballance. Snatched it at PC Fair for only RM399 and that works approximately 40 cents per Gig. Normal retail price is RM445 at Low Yat. Now I can download and store more stuff!! Should I temp you with this entry, its not too late as tomorrow is the last day for PC Fair if you want to grab it at this price. Cheers :)

PC Fair 2009 Opens Its Door Today

Dear boys and girls, today PC Fair 2009 opens its door. I'm rather excited to attend this time round as I've have a few things in mind to purchase, mostly PC necessities (ye ke ni ? >:D). However I'm currently bogged down at work unable to take half-day off; though of getting there early beating the crowd and grabbing the first offers.

OMG Friday prayers.. GTG.. will update this later! Anyhow, for those who had the opportunity to go during luch-time etc; just share some crazy offers if any :)

HP Mini 1000: Sweet Deal at Harvey Norman

If you've been eying a HP Mini 1000, now is a good time to buy as HP has reduced its price. from RM1,699 to RM1,499. Based on my observations through the web, there are 2 main reasons for the price slash:

1. Introduction of HP Mini 2140 early April (most likely during PC Fair 2009)
2. HP Mini 2140 will be priced at RM 1,699 >> same price as HP Mini 1000 (before price cut)

The swirly design on its case both contemporary and eye pleasing. A colleague of mine is currently using this Netbook and similarly to what I've said on HP Mini 2140; it's does the job well for office work, surfing and light multimedia. Only drawback is the absent of a VGA port which hinders you from using it for presentations.

The deficiency is easily fixed with HP optional VGA cable for this Netbook which retails at US$19.90. However if you really need VGA out; better opt for HP Mini 2140 as not only it has a VGA out, it also boast a larger and faster HDD, 3D HDD Protection and Expresscard Slot.

If you don't mind what HP Mini 1000 lacks, then by all means get this nice Netbook. Harvey Norman is selling it at RM1,499 with 2 free gifts which you can choose (Kesington Lock, USB hub, Optical Mouse, Screen Protector and etc) plus 50 pieces of blank DVD-Rs.

My Very Own HP Mini (^-^)

At last, after a month and a half of constant internet monitoring.. I've finally got my hands on my very own HP Mini 2140. Been waiting for its arrival in Malaysia, but HP representative informed that it will only reach Malaysia by end of March or early April. Hence my main purpose of the recent trip to Singapore was to buy it from the Singapore IT Show 2009.

You might think, why to this extend this bloke would go and get this Netbook? Well.. I really needed something small and light for work; namely to check e-mails, simple document editing and do presentations. I've been hauling the office's 14 inch notebook and it is killing my back, to add insult.. the wireless didn't even work!

I chose this Netbook as it has an aluminum chassis, 92% full sized QWERTY keyboard, VGA out, large HDD (160 GB) and its minimalist design. But my other main deciding factor was the HP brand, which I fully trust on their excellent support (based on past experience). The only letdown for me is the power brick; which if the wires are all wound-up, its half the size of the Netbook itself :D It would be nice if they could do it like Dell's Mini 12 power brick, which is similar to a hand phone charger.

Anyhow, tt has been a week using the HP Mini 2140 and I'm glad to say that I am very pleased with its aesthetics and performance. It coped well with it intended purpose, which is web surfing, light office work, presentations and some multimedia playback. Setting your expectation right on Netbooks is crucial as "it is not a notebook" and people are going to get disappointed if you expect it to perform like one.

A little bit more details on the user experience; the system itself comes with Windows XP Home OS, on which I've installed Norton Internet Security and re-installed the MS Office 2007 (got enterprise license). In terms of protection and office work, everything performed well. Responsiveness of loading and editing large office files was nippy.

Web surfing on the other hand, Google Chrome is the fastest browser but IE7 which came second is my default browser. I choose IE7 as it is surprisingly fast to load, supports full screen browsing and it can be integrated with the Norton Internet Security password management. Both browsers loads and streamed multimmedia content well. Firefox on the other hand; crashed and loads very slowly, I've uninstalled it shortly.

Lastly in terms of multimedia; it played 16:9 DivX videos smoothly with perfect full screen display (without the letter box due to its resolution 1024x576). It also can play High Definition 720p and 1080 movies provided it is encoded in *.avi format. Matroska or *.mkv video simply a no no.. it jitters a lot and not watchable. I think the high compression level of Matroska is too much for the Atom processor.

Additionally apart from what I've described above; it is light at 1.2kg, well constructed and the battery lasts over 3 hours between charging. A good combo for any people who are constantly on the move. Nowadays, I carry it evrywhere in my trustee Crumpler :D Oh ya, bought the HP Mini at Singapore IT Show for approximately RM 1,850 (after tax rebate) which comes with free 2GB RAM upgrade and HP Slipcase.

Singapore IT Show 2009

The view today as I waited outside the hall 15 minutes prior to Singapore IT Show opening. This is my third consecutive time I've attended this event and it has become something I look forward every year.

It is sort of become; another excuse for a trip to Singapore :) But basically I like to attend the IT Show there as it showcases many new gadgets which some may or may not reach our shores. Last year it was on GPS navigation device, companies like HP, Packet Bell, Garmin and few other which I cannot recall; put forward their latest devices. Had a chance to test almost all of them!

This year I think belongs to LCD TV, huge companies like Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, Harvey Norman and Courts are selling the televisions like an auction format and it all went like hotcakes. Best deal I've heard is two 40 inch LCD, Full HD was sold for the price of one by Courts. However this time also its a little bit crowded and noisy with the auction going on.

On cameras, Sony still offer the best deal. Even though it is a fraction cheaper than Malaysia, it really is still a good bargain. Why? Because they've bundled item like 8GB Memory Stick plus another 2 4GB Memory Stick, Leather Case, Sony Photo Printer, International warranty!! The freebies alone cost half of the camera cost if it's in Malaysia.

If you're into Dell Mini 10, the one locked with Maxis 3G in Malaysia; you can also purchase it here at an offer price of SG$699 (approx RM1690). If you have already subscribe to 3G data plan, just pop-in your sim card in this Netbook for wireless connectivity. LG and HP Mini 1011 also offers their own Netbook with 3G capabilities built in.

If you're into personal music, there are abundance of mid-to-high-end earphones to choose from. Senheiser, Sone, Audio-Technica, Panasonic and Creative just to name a few. Basically there are many things to see if you're a technology or gadget buff. I can keep rambling with a long list but I won't.

I just would like to recommend, if you have the opportunity; take a trip next year and see the IT Show for yourself! Signing off from Lion City :)

Easy Bread Pudding

This is my easy bread pudding recipe, I've improvised some of the ingredients to make it healthier.

Ingredients:

- 2 cups lowfat milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 omega 3 eggs (L)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
- pinch of salt (approx 1/3 teaspoon)
- 4-5 slices of Gardenia classic whitebread
- 1/2 cup of raisins
- some butter to rub on the dish

Pre heat oven to 220c. Whisk in a bowl all items from milk to salt in the list above. Rub some butter on inner part of a ceramic dish. Cut the bread to small cubes, approx 1.5 by 1.5 cm, layering with raisins inside the dish. Then pour the mix onto the bread dish ensuring all is covered.

Pop it into the pre heated oven in a water bath. In 45 minutes the bread pudding will be ready. We want the top slightly browned.

This is so easy to do, baked it 3 times already and once guided my niece. Give it a try, its so scrumptiously yummy :)

Optional sauce: 1/2 cup low fat milk heated in a saucepan with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon cornflour and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Heat it till slightly thickens. Pour onto the bread pudding as much as the heart contempt.

HP Mini for the Ladies

While checking for HP Mini 2140 availability at HP Malaysia Online Store, I've stumbled upon another version of the HP Mini 1000; the Viviene Tam edition. This model was release in the US a few weeks after the introduction of the Mini 1000 and retails at US$699 (appox RM 2,516), a difference of US$250 (approx RM 900) from the original Mini 1000 (US$449; approx RM 1,616).

However to my surprise, the Viviene Tam edition is relatively cheap in Malaysia at only RM 1,999 and the difference is not much with the original HP 1000 selling at RM 1,699. This may due to the fact, the Malaysian edition uses a normal HDD instead of the speedy and expensive solid state drive. All is not lost as with the normal HDD, you gain much more HDD space (60GB vs 16GB).

While the other specs are the same as an original Mini 1000, the exception with this edition is its exterior design; which is all splashed in red (including the keyboards) with floral design. and it comes with a design matching silk sleeve. In my opinion, it is a sweet looking Netbook for the ladies and nicely priced. Grab this Netbook fast if you're interested as HP does state 'limited edition'. Link to HP online store.

Drooling Over HP Mini

When HP introduced the HP Mini 1000 end of last year, I was impressed with its hip contemporary design. Being a Netbook understandably I've put my expectation for it's performance at a minimum and kept in mind that it was meant for surfing and light productivity on the go.

Nonetheless I've researched extensively on the web for its features and reviews. bwana and Dan Ankerman reviews really put the HP Mini into my serious consideration. It showed, how snappy the HP Mini was running productivity applications, web streaming and video playback.

So off to the store for physical evaluation and man, I fell in love with the look, built quality feel and it's lightness straight away. The Windows XP also performed surprisingly well with most of applications launched quite fast, videos played well, hibernates/shutdown/restart/launch Windows at an acceptable time.

Umm by the way I'm doing this tests at Harvey Norman and cheekily without shame asking the sales guy to key-in the password every time I hibernate/shutdown/restart/launch the Netbook. I especially like the large keyboard slapped end-to-end on the system, it's really comfortable and no learning curve is required to get used to.

The HP Mini 1000 does have its downside, with a smaller and slower HDD from other offerings in the market at 60GB 4200RPM and no VGA out (requires special cable). Despite these 2 minor set-backs, I was sold and ready for a purchase. RRP for the HP Mini is RM1,699.

Surveyed Harvey Norman, Digital Mall PJ and Low Yat Plaza; the best bargain from the lot is at Low Yat whereby at RM 1,700 (payment by credit card charges included), they upgrade the RAM to 2 GB and throw in 5 freebies (Mouse, USB Hub etc). Another company offers the same as above but with additional 160GB WD External HDD (worth RM175) at a total of RM 1,800.

To me the latter is the better offer even its priced higher, as I can easily sell the external HDD at RM 150 and get the system at only RM 1,650! However it was not meant to be get this Netbook on that day, the only new unit that they have, had a physical defect on the screen (probably someone poked it with a sharp object). Went for the first bargain without the external HDD, they on the other hand didn't have stock. Turns out their store manager was still on CNY holiday.

With a heavy heart, went home without my HP Mini. That night I've research some more re-run the video review and I've stumbled on something that got me really excited! It's a newer model of the HP Mini 2140. It's much more sleeker being in an aluminum chassis with PCI/54 Express card slot, ~~120 GB~~ 160 GB 5400RPM HDD and VGA out.

The HP Mini 2140 was introduced in the US market early Jan 09 and it should arrive in Asia by mid-Feb 09 and as of yesterday it is just on sale in Singapore. Hopefully it will reach Malaysia by end of the moth or I'll drive down the there to get one. Actually it's a blessing in disguise that my purchase didn't went through for the HP Mini 1000 as I'm definitely would want the latter. For now I'm continuing to google everyday and joined forums to get the latest updates on its availability here.

So far this application is a jiffy to use. Everything is self explanatory and easy to use.

Previously I've posted an entry on my notebook also from iPhone but that is through the secret e-mail. Some key items such as labels and multiple photos support are mising from the e-mailing method.

By using BlogPress I can manage and edit posts, add labels, photos, and etc. Additional features which would make this application better are landscape authoring, spell check, geotag and url link. Other than that, this app really makes mobile blogging easier.

What's Your Poison?

If you like acoustic music, the you'll definitely like this band; Boyce Avenue. Stumbled upon while searching for guitar lessons in YouTube, I've been an avid listener since. The band does cover songs of popular hits which some to me sounded much more better than the original singer.

Boyce Avenue, a Florida-based band popular for its strong acoustic roots and constant drive toward a melody- and harmony-driven rock sound, consists of the three brothers Alejandro, Fabian, and Daniel Manzano, and Stephen Hatker. The band first came together in 2000, when Alejandro (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Fabian (guitar, vocals), then 14 and 16 years old, respectively, started playing guitar. ~ Boyce Avenue Official Website ~

Don't let the boy band look deceive you, the lead singer Alejandro (second from right) has a strong, grunge vocals which is well suited for acoustics paired with basic instruments; it is truly something refreshing to hear. Current favorites includes the following cover songs:

3. With You - chris brown
4. Don't Look Back in Anger - oasis
5. Closer - ne-yo

Been craving this snack for months.. search almost all major supermarket and japanese speciallity store from Ampang, KLCC, PJ and finally today found at The Garden's Cold Storage.

These tiny critters, measuring not more than an inch packs mouthful of flavor. Everything could be consumed, from the tiny legs, claws and even the whole body shell. To discribe the taste, easiest to explain; it taste similar to the chili ikan bilis from Pangkor. A pack of 200 grams costs RM 14. Why not give it a try? It's nice.

Burrpp.. excuse me.. but I'm full from eating a dozen of this crab :)

Haha.. Finally it arrived yesterday at 3.55pm.. So whats in the bag?

Yeazzaaa!! Finally, my very own iPhone 3G!!! My most anticipated gadget which I've want since it launched.

Been watching this phone since it was first introduced (iPhone 1st Gen), but was bummed with exclusivity offering tied to a service provider. Hacked version doesn't compel either as it would be difficult to do periodical updates.

However since the introduction of the 3G version, more and more of these phone flooding the market with officially unlocked versions and now with version 2.0 firmware which supports MS Exchange; I was very tempted and started "researching" for the last 2 1/2 weeks on my free time.

Since placing an order on eBay, made payment, received the tracking number; it was worth the effort and wait to get this phone. Never had I bough a phone that excites myself and half of the office; its like a mini Apple "unveiling" event.

Anyhow, just "played" around for a day now and I'm very pleased with it. It can't beat a full QWERTY keyboard of my previous phone, but overall its awesome :)

Momo Logitech Works With Windows Vista

Few months back I've treat myself with a gaming apparatus, Logitech Momo Force Feedback Wheel. Its an excuse for me to unwind and relax from work plus as a reward for milestones archived.

It's not an easy task to select this wheel as it quite old (long in market, since Windows 98) and there's a stream of incompatibilities discussions with Windows Vista in forums. Safe to estimate that 50% says it doesn't work and 50% said it works. Anyhow determined, I've boldly bought it with Collin McRae Dirt.

Exited, I've downloaded the latest driver and installed the game; hoping for instant action. Boy I was in a bind when I've discovered that the gas paddle was stuck all the way (full throttle) in the game. I've kept reinstalling the drivers, applying patches to the game but without avail till I've found a registry hack in Logitech's forum.

The registry hack was meant for something else, but heck I was desperate and willing to try anything to make it work. And guess what it does works :D I've finally had a proper go 3 hours after when I've initially started. The steering force feedback was was awesome and it feels and looks great. Paired with the realistic game of Dirt, I've was totally immense within the game.

Another note though for Windows Vista users, you also have to download the latest Collin McRae Dirt patch v1.2. There a vital fix which you require to load your saved gaming profile properly.

So there you go, if you're into driving simulation; the Logitech Momo is a great choice, plenty of fun, inexpensive (RM238) and it WORKS with Windows Vista. Collin McRae Dirt goes for RM119.

Being out on a vacation is so much fun and something I always look forward to. It’s the time to really let loose and be care free about all my worries. It is also a time to see other places, food and culture, plus there’s senseless shopping to boot.

However, a vacation would be more meaningful if you got your friends or family tagged along to share with. Recalling a particular vacation or shall I say a business trip in east coast of Malaysia, me and a couple of colleagues were driving along the old road heading towards Mersing. It was a long winding drive, approximately 4-5 hours through forests and plantations fields.

I would be very tired at the end of the trip if it weren’t for my cheerful colleagues. We’ve shared stories, jokes all along the way and also noticed some unusual signage. What I’ve discovered was a road sign with a cow on it crossed, meaning no cows on the road.

Computing the signage; it is normal if the sign was no motorcycle or lorry, whereby logically behind the wheel is a person who can READ the road sign. But if this road sign was intended for a cow? *blink*blink* Wow!! That the cow must be really smart to understand, or was it a cow who put it up in the first place. Hahaha..I was giggling on my own, when I’ve explained to the others we all break into laughter.

Oh well this could be the most humorous trip of all. With the right attitude and companions, a business trip could also be a mini-vacation. I really that break after a stressful couple of months at the office.

A holiday however requires proper planning and budget. I do most of my planning through online travel guides, books and friends. I also subscribe to travel e-newsletter for periodical updates. As with my previous experience to Britain, Scotland, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand; proper planning will ensure a good trip. As for now, a vacation to go on Las Vegas tour during CES (Consumer Electronic Show) or a trip to Japan tops of my dream holidays.

Need More Space

Things in my room are getting out of hand; boxes, magazines, bills, pedals, speakers, bowling ball, wires are literally everywhere. I've meant to tidy things up but I'm all pooped out after work. Weekends are the only days left for me to really crash out, chill out, hang with the parents, but mostly I'm going to be in front of the tele watching movies, eat and dozed off on the couch.

This weekend however, I was forced to clean up my room as am about to receive a new bed. Out goes four large black plastic bags of my uni notes, couple of bags, parcel boxes semi eaten by white ants, very old pc magazines, hundreds of VCDs and Software/Games CDs; oh well! Lots of stuff went out. It's difficult to keep thing tidy as I have TOO MUCH stuff in it.

Every venture or hobby I've done, usually followed with books and gear. I've done bowling, guitar, music, fly fishing and etc. On top of that I seem to have a habit of collecting everything nice; pins, badges, keychains, coke cans/bottles, model cars and etc. Some of em started by my brother.

As I'm writing this, my room still not 'cleared'. Have to do it slowly, to keep myself motivated and make it neat rather than just to shove everything clear. Good luck for me huh? :)

Keep Things Up To Date

I have just learn today that my thumbdrive was infected, yet again by virus. This is the one where you have to use explorer to view your files instead of direct from my computer window. Dang!! More time wasted just to sort out this annoyances.

Why can't people keep their virus definition up to date or schedule run a virus scan. I usually avoid plugging my thumbdrive other people's PC, however yesterday I had no choice; and the result is infected. I'm lucky though it's not the really malicious type which deletes all the files.

Remember guys, to always update your virus definitions, backup your files and avoid plugging your thumbdrive to another PC which you are not familiar with.

Wild West Experience

It’s been a while since a western movie hit the silver screen. If I am not mistaken, the last good movie in this genre is Tombstone by Kevin Costner about the legendary Wyatt Earp; officer of law and feared gunslinger. Other old time favourite includes The Magnificent Seven, Maverick and anything from Charles Bronson or Clint Eastwood.

Apart from the settlement of petty issues through the end of a Point 45 Magnum or Winchester Rifle (thank god that period has passed), I am always fascinated with the simplicity of a cowboys life. Almost everything owned or consumed is worked with own sweat and effort. However that the romantic representation from Hollywood, we will never know for sure unless we’re in that era.

The only thing that burned in my mind as result of watching lots of western is: I always imagined myself as a cowboy in a dessert, whenever I am eating baked beans with eggs and using only a fork of course but no hat :P

Moving along and interested to experience more on the cowboy culture, I’ve stumbled upon the Houston Rodeo & Livestock Show (a/k/a rodeoHOUSTON). This is a one stop cowboy experience event that last for almost a month held next year from 3rd till 22nd March 2009. There are rodeo shows, square dancing, country music, authentic western barbeque, gun slinging and of course real cowboys. There are also many activities for both grown-ups and children whom you can participate; I am looking forward to have a go of shooting a rifle, 0.45 Magnum and trail rides.

Looks like I have to sell lots of stuff on eBay to set some budget, if I plan to go. Its going to be quite a task with the recent fuel price hike and hopefully by the time I’m going, there are still RodeoHouston tickets available. Oh well, in the mean time better I practice my Yeeehaaaaww!!

Take A Hike

Yesterday, most of us experienced the massive traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur due to the recent announcement of fuel price hike. I don't want to elaborate on the road conditions that day nor on the fuel price.

However I would like to share on my total bill for dinner that night at a mamak outlet. Its only been a few hours since the price hike announced and food prices suddenly went up also. The tandoori chicken which I ate rose RM 1 from RM 5.50 to RM 6.50 and Beehun Sup remains at RM 4.50 even though ordered without egg. When complained, the mamak only says that with or without egg it remains the same.

Recently I've been careful with my expenses and finding cheaper substitutes for my needs and wants. Example; instead of eating at the mall's food court after a movie and drink coffee at Starbucks, we go for a cheaper venue such as mamak, SS2 etc. But if the food court has reasonably priced food items, we usually resort to eating there.

Back to the mamak, I will never go there anymore. Worse case, I'll cook my dinner at home; it's fresher and more delicious even though its only baked beans and eggs. I wonder how will the current weak government control such act and inflation. Sight* I'd better stock up food to cook.

Got Conned at Money Changer

Dear friends, hopefully this does not happen to you. Yesterday, I went to a money changer to change my access Indonesian Rupiahs back to RM. I had a stack of Rupiah in 100,000 and 50,000 denominations, which the total amount I was very sure off.

It was like any normal transaction, I handed over the total amount to the money changer and they counted it. The dispute only arises when the total amount was not as per what I've submitted. I requested for a recount and the amount totaled up the same; 50,000 Rupiah short. The money changer handed the money back to me, and when counted truly it was 50,000 Rupiah short.

What else could I do? Reluctantly I changed the money. Afterwards, I've check my pockets, my wallet and it is actually impossible to misplace a single sheet as I had tied it with a rubber band and kept in a separate pocket. I was puzzled and stressed as I am very sure of my total mount.

The only conclusion I could think off is that the money changer conned / shortchanged me. How? She did counted in front of me. Recalling back; I did have a stack of Rupiah in two different denominations as mentioned.

Upon receiving the money from me, the money changer split the money according to the denomination; putting one half on the table out of my view while immediately counting the other using an automated machine. Once done, she proceeded to count the money on the table; I can't see if she kept one note aside as the counter was high. At least this is how I figured, they took my money. Like I said; What can I do? Just bad luck.

Lesson learned:

Never hand over a stack of money with different denominations to the money changer.
Always keep your eyes lock on the money.
Never go to the money changer again (Mid Valley, LG Floor at the KFC escalators. Right most money changer)

Weight Issues

Today I’ve experienced light headedness at work which prompted me a visit the office doctor. I suspect it was my blood pressure which causes this and I am partially correct. I said partially because all the 3 reading done differs from one another; the first 2 being high and thankfully the last reading indicates normal blood pressure.

The doctor let me off with an advice for me to do a blood test and reduce weight. To date I had gained 40 pounds from last I’ve seen her in 2006. I suspect my weight could be a contributing factor other than stressed at work.

Looks like I have to be selective and cut down the portions of what I eat and back to exercising regularly. It going to be quite a hurdle to change the eating habits as I find eating relieves my stress. Going back to gym is also daunting, but it’s unavoidable for my health sake.

Coincidentally today also, I’ve discovered that there is a drug that can assist in reducing my weight. The drug is called Generic Acomplia from Rimonabant which works by blocking your cravings for food or other substances. It is a great way to cut down my food intake; if coupled with regular exercising, I could be well on tract to lose weight and regain my fitness.

The One With The Suprise Birthday Party

This is a long overdue entry, however I still have to post this to show my utmost appreciation (Len, if you don't mind, I borrow your header preamble for this entry) to Yang, Lenny, Alya, Fairuz, Mysara, Bigg, Ninie, Afza and Syaban; thank you very much for attending the birthday party. It was nice of you and it really made my day after a mundane and laborious day at work.

Apart from that, I would also like to thank my many friends that extended their wishes throughout the day; you're a lifeline for me to keep me on working. I especially liked the one which Ika, Zainul & Qais sent to me (as pictured on the left). And special thanks to xumb for leaving a birthday wish on my blog.

Last but not least, to the one that made this possible; my sweetheart Sayang Noorul Aiza :) Thank you very much for making this happen and thank you for the super nice gift (as pictured below). It was totally unexpected and really came to me as a surprise! I thought you really needed the disposable panties for the trip and cake for your mom :P

Malaysian Driving

I know this is a topic that we commonly know and experience from day-in and day-out. I've been on Malaysian roads for quite some time to express my opinion that attitude of a Malaysian driver has become from bad to worse. We have become so inconsiderate, law breakers and violent; we even have the cheeks to be mad or argue when clearly they are in the wrong or breaking the rule.

Take an example just for today, with the limited hours on the road; I have witnessed:

3 accidents, 2 on the road and one gone into a river
5 drivers driving while the traffic lights are red
2 drivers driving through a no entry or the opposite direction of a one way street
2 drivers driving through a red light at a pedestrian crossing
numerous people not stopping at a zebra crossing
uncountable numbers of speeding
changing lanes or turning at a junction without signaling
reckless driving

I read Readers Digest article on the Ranking of the Worse Drivers (attitude) in the world approximately 6 years back; Malaysia ranked fifth in Asia. By today if the study was conducted again, I would think we could be ranked the first. As at that time, Philippines drivers was at the top spot and the way the author put it; it describes the way we drive today.

Children witnessing their parents breaking the law on the road, what would they think about that? It should be ok as the parents did i, excellent example to the children. Do you have no shame? The authorities not doing their job enforcing the law prolonging over the years, this is what it has become. People no longer respect the law nor the authorities, do you have no shame?

It is a sad sight to see and a heartache of how bad things had become. Worse of all, if you think beyond the driving; in my opinion it reflects our attitude, discipline level and our principles in life. I love this country and that is why I express my dissatisfaction and grief here as clearly the government is not doing anything significant to rectify this social ill. I wonder what kind of leader or society will we have in another 10 years time?

PC Fair 2008 Aftermath

PC Fair 2008 in Kuala Lumpur just passed over the weekend and its the usual scene. The place was overly crowded and not much of a showcase. Prices are cheap, but not much if compared to purchasing it at Low Yat Plaza on normal days. If it ain't urgent, just buy at the shop.

As I have a list of things to buy, this year I went for the fair 2 days in a row. Day 1 was on Friday, a working day and I can only go after office hours. Since there's not much time left till closing at 9pm; day 1 is dedicated to survey the products and prices. Oh! day 1 also is the day to buy cheap back issue magazines before they're sold out.

Day 2 on Saturday was for shopping!! This year really did the damage; bought some RAMs, antivirus softwares, power bricks and LCD monitors. Notice the 's', bought not 1 but 2 power bricks and LCD monitors. And the ridiculous layout and flow rule of the PC Fair from the year before is still there. I was puffing, huffing and stopped several times just to get out of the exhibition hall through the "designated exit".

This flow rule is to ensure that every hall is visited especially the main sponsors. Going 2 days straight, I find it very troublesome as I wanted to go to hall 4 out of 5. Exit also the same as mentioned, luckily there was the gurlfriend who helped me to carry the power bricks. In Singapore IT Fair, you are free to enter and exit at any of its entrance. Which makes it very practical if you suddenly decided to get that "item" that wanted directly in and out.

Oh well, as much I compare and complaint; I still go to Malaysia PC Fair and buy stuffs. It's a guy attraction thing I suppose, being around all those gadgets. Also we did bump into Shook and his brother at the fair.

p/s : My unluckiness hits twice as of today; One of the LCD monitor I've bought has a dead pixel, after getting a replacement yesterday' again there was also a dead pixel. Trying to get it changed again tomorrow.

DIY Chocolate Coated Pretzels

These are two of my favorite snacks; pretzels & dark chocolate. In this DIY, I'm going to show you how I combined both to create a bitter sweet crunchy treat. This is nothing new, as this is just exactly what Nestle Flipz Pretzels are. The idea came about as the original Flipz is getting expensive at RM 12.90 for a bag of 141 grams, it used to be 7 or 8 bucks.

Fed up with the ridiculous price, I've decided to make my own. A bag of pretzels only costs RM 10 for 283 grams and RM 6 for a medium sized dark chocolate bar. If half of the chocolate bar is used, its makes about 35 deliciously chocolate coated pretzels; which is less than 1/10th of a bag of pretzels are used. So to make em...

You would need :
1. Pretzels
2. Half of medium sized chocolate bar
3. Teaspoon of butter

Step 1
Put the chocolate in a bowl together with the butter and zap em both in the microwave for 3 minutes on high to melt. Learn to melt chocolate from *the gurlfriend*

Careful taking out the bowl from microwave, it's hot. I like to have a lot of chocolate coated, so my liquid chocolate consistancy is quite thick.

Step 2
To coat the pretzels; put 2 to 3 pieces at any one time as longer exposure to the hot liquid will soften the pretzel and make it less crunchy.

I used a kitchen tweezers to flip the pretzels in the bowl, to ensure it is fully coated with chocolate. If the chocolate in the bowl start to stiffen, put it back in the microwave for a minute.

Step 3
One by one immediately after dipping into the chocolate, arrange your pretzels in a container. The chocolate is still soft, to harden it; place it in the fridge and 20 minutes later its ready to be eaten.

It's so simple right? The preparations on took 15 minutes. Trust me, it's delicious and the taste is the same as Flipz. I've yet to try on white chocolate, normal dairy and as I'm writing this; I'm thinking of sprinkling some chocolate rice or crushed almond over the coated chocolate pretzels. Give it a try and tell me how'd it turned out :)

PC Fair 2008

How time flies, I haven't written about the Singapore IT Show which I went to last month now comes along Malaysia's PC Fair 2008. To be more precise, this years PC Fair will be held at the same venue Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (for Klang Valley) and will commence this Friday till Sunday (11th - 13th April 2008).

The PC Fair which usually held twice a year; for past 3 years I've been at least once a year. The thing I look forward most to during a PC Fair are the cheap computing and technology back issues magazines. Other than that I do not bother to go if there isn't anything that I wish to purchase.

The reason I said it that way is because, PC Fair in Malaysia is quite bland, crowded and boring. Their modes operandi maintains the same every year without improvement to the exhibits. Everybody is selling the same thing and at a 'Promotional' price and there is introduction of new technology due to the minimal participation of big IT companies. For a change, I would very much like to see the latest gadgets, technology or even some prototypes for a peek to the future.

Oh well.. I don't see it happening any sooner. Even after saying that, I'm still going this year as I have a list of items to buy; software & hardware. Give me buzz if you're there also :)

DIY : Guitar Pick Holder

This is a simple DIY guitar pick holder, inspired like the ones in concerts; where they place extra picks along the microphone stand boom for easy reach. Well, I don't perform in gigs nor concerts, but I just like how the picks lined up nicely and how easy it is to access them.

This is a relatively easy project and would only take 10 to 15 minutes. To make the holder, you would require the following items :

Intro : Materials for the pick holder
~ 1 Binder Bar ~ 1 A4 size Foam Board

Tools
~ Steel ruler ~ cutter
~ magic tape ~ 3mm diameter rod

Step 1

Cut the foam board to a 3 cm strip

Step 2

Fold the foam strip into two along its length and tape it to a steel ruler. Fold in way to have one side is slightly wider than the other.

Step 3

Insert the foam board into the binder bar by sliding it in with the ruler from one side till its fully in.

Step 4

Remove the taping and peel off the ruler.

Step 5

Trim off the access foam at both end, and there you have it; a concert like guitar pick holder.

Unexpected Find

I just love gadgets and handphones naturally tops the list. Since the introduction of Samsung Blackjack in the US (end 2006), I was captivated by its sleek design and the numerous connectivity options. I read loads of reviews and joined few forums just to know more on its features and get an insight as when will this smartphone arrive to our shores.

In the following year; early 2007, we had our first of tri-annual PC Fairs and I must say that the event marketing sure did it’s work as I found my way there 3 years in a row. I actually went to find a backpack for my (back then) new laptop, when I was unexpectedly lured to a Samsung booth. It was not due to the pretty Samsung Girls, but to something I’ve been craving for months; Yes! You’ve guess it right, the Blackjack!!

Over here evidently, they called it Samsung SGH-i600 and it bears one additional connectivity option which is WiFi on top of HSDPA and Bluetooth. I wasn’t expecting it to be here for at least a couple of months, in fact; I haven’t started saving for it. Package includes the phone, 2 batteries, 1Gb micro SD memory, Bluetooth earpiece and 18 months warranty; outside the event, package doesn’t comes with the Bluetooth earpiece which retails for RM150. I was hooked on the offer and swiped that good old credit card.

If memory serves me right that’s not the only damage of the day, apart from the phone, I’ve also purchased a backpack for my notebook, memory keys and notebook RAM; all "on offer". This frenzy sure cleaned my wallet for a few months. Currently the phone has been updated with Windows Mobile version 6 and working flawlessly. I heard that there is a new and improved model just launched and the event marketing has already sent out invites. Guess where I will be in 11th till 13th April 2008?

DIY Dry Box : Keep Your Gadgets Safe

Storing your camera or electronic gadgets properly is quite essential to avoid an unplanned trip to the servicing center. Your equipment is best stored in a cool and dry place to avoid:

1. Moisture – more often if your room is air-conditioned due to the condensations
2. Fungus - especially for camera lenses
3. Dust – if stored on an open shelve for example

The best place to avoid all these is to store your equipments in a dry box. There are many commercially available dry boxes in the market, but more often they are expensive.

A cheaper solution which I’m currently practicing is to use an air tight plastic container and put in a few silica gel inside which you can get from any good camera shop. The sachets type is quite hard to come by (unless you eat a lot of BinBin Rice Crackers; there's a small sachet inside), however the loose ones packed in a bigger bag is available at Photo Shangrila.

The container keeps the dusts away and silica gel acts as an agent that absorbs any moisture within the container. Now you’ve eliminated the 3 threats above and keep your equipments safe.

This plastic container has an air lock and a valve to withdraw air out once the lid is closed.
Inside: a few sachet type silica gels (these are not from BinBin :P). The blue padding is actually high density foam which you can get from a stationary store.

This plastic container on the other hand has a tray inside which is perfect to put the loose type silica gels.

There no step-by-step DIY guide here as it is fairly easy and mostly common sense. A good project to keep your gadgets safe and organized.

Today's Breakfast

Today I had a special treat for breakfast; Pulut Durian! It's not so often I can have this meal as the durian fruit is seasonal and I have never come across food vendor selling this in Kuala Lumpur. In the northern states like Kedah and Perlis; yes, it is commonly available at pasar malam (night market). The closest I could find is, Pulut Mangga which is a Thai delicacy however its yumminess is a far cry from its original.

Anyhow, pulut durian consists of:
1. Pulut (steamed glutenous rice )
2. Durian fruit
3. Santan (coconut milk cooked with a pinch of salt)

Best eaten with the hands, the taste is creamy and sweet; best thing in the world. However beware; according to some the smell of the durian is not very pleasing. Yesterday, as I was making payment at a counter; the gurlfriend and the lady cashier thought they'd smelt propane gas!! Obviously it was not the case as it was only my durian. To me it smell sweet and yummy.

Oh well.. people has different opinion on that subject, but most of us love this fruit. Just take it like cheese, some frown and don't eat due to the smell or taste. I know most of you eat durian; why not try it in this combination, I assure it that you'd want more :D

Singapore Bites

Whenever travelling, I always love to sample local food and Singapore is no exception. In this post I would like to share one of my all time favourite snacks over there which is Old Chang Kee. I love it so much that I look forward to have a bite every time I’m there and even put it in my to do list in my last trip :P

At Old Chang Kee, they sell various concoctions of fried seafood (mostly shrimp & squids), fishballs, nuggets, chicken, heck almost anything that could be pierced by the bamboo sticks. They also specializes in curry puffs, this is not your average 3 by 1 half inch that we’re used to; it is more like the size a slice of cheesecake. There are also many fillings to choose from the traditional potato chicken curry, beef and sardines.

My personal favourites are the squid head on stick and the sardine puff (pictured). These two are exceptionally delicious; I’m producing access saliva while writing this. You might say that we also have Old Chang Kee in Malaysia (Sungei Wang & One Utama), but we don’t have that extra enhancer which is the sambal (fried chilli paste), and we also don’t have the sardine puff.

If you don’t believe how delicious it is, just look at the number of people queuing up. If you’re ever heading over there, be sure to have a taste or feast! It won’t empty your wallet but filled your stomach instead. Old Chang Kee could be easily found on the Orchard Road stretch and throughout the island.

Bad Luck or Statistics

Malaysian general election just went by and I am damn glad that I didn't vote. Don't give me that: "you're not practicing your rights speech". %#%$@!! For all I care they are all a bunch of clowns.

Why am I so furious? Well I've just recently serviced my car; it's a normal major service for 60,000 KM. They done everything to the book inclusive of alignment & balancing, the bill totaled to RM5XX. It's okay for me since it a major service.

However, yesterday as I was on my way back home; I hit a big pot hole in the middle of the MRR2. What the ^%$#@!! It was unavoidable; people couldn't see it as it was raining and the damn thing is filled with water. People pay road tax, income tax, service tax.. the lot to a lousy administrator $#@%$#!!

Today I discovered that when I corner, my right front tyre would hit the bodywork. %$@$#!! First ripping me off with taxes and now I have to pay more for the repairs and take time off to send the car. To me, this is not bad luck; just plain statistics. That hole for all I know has been there for weeks, and I'm one of the people so happen to dunk a tyre in it.

If you're the D*** F*** that maintains the road, please do your F****** job or go rot in hell for all I care. Do you want to pay for the damages incurred? Don't wait till a motorcyclist tumble and die to take action.

Drivers & motorcyclist; please be careful if you are using the MRR2 and heading towards Gombak. The pot hole is just before the Kampung Pasir flyover on the right most lane.

Singapore Flyer : Worlds Tallest Ferris Wheel

Ok some update from the Singapore trip. So what's new in Lion City you might ask.. well.. if you're at the Esplanade or Suntec City vicinity, its hard to miss a towering ferris wheel in between the building. They call it the Singapore Flyer.

Actually, I've seen it during my previous trips to Singapore however it is still in construction. This time round though; me, Aiza, Tini & Fariz got the chance to get on board this new landmark. We were amongst the earliest to get on as it only commence its service a week earlier on 1st March 2008. Even the taxi driver had to guess where exactly the Singapore Flyer is located on the road.

We bought our tickets online via Singapore Flyer website. Normal tickects without express boarding costs SG$29.50 each or approximately RM 68.00. Express boarding is where you can skip waiting inline and board direct into the capsule. However, I think the extra SG$20 for that isn't necessary if you are going during off-peaks; morning, office hours etc. We went on Saturday morning, there weren't many people and no queue.

As you get closer to the ferris wheel, you begin to awe over the scale and its engineering feats. Man!! this thing is really huge when you're up close to its base. The Flyer stand tall at 541 ft, currently the highest in the world till completion of Beijing Great Wheel in 2009. To assist you in imagining the height, just look at the KLCC skybridge; its only a few feet shy from that. Its very tall isn't it?

On board, the capsule is spacious and comfortable (for those whom are not afraid of heights a presume). The view is magnificent when you higher on the altitude. On the South East bearing, you can see the wide open space of the ocean with lots of ships. 180 degrees back to North West, you can see Singapore's concrete jungle of skyscrapers. The ride will take on for 30 minutes, whereby you will have ample time to enjoy the scenery and take as much photos as you wish.

I'm not promoting for them, but I do recommend you to have a go on Singapore Flyer at least once. Its something to remember upon your trip. Here are some pics that I took, will have more in my Picasa as soon :)

WohooOO!! My blog has been approved for payperpost. What a way to jumpstart my blog. First was on the new domain name and now Pay Per Post. This gives me more than a reason to update my blog frequently and keep it alive.

I first learned about payperpost from the *Gurlfriend* and I find it as an Interesting concept. She managed to convince me to join payperpost over the benefits not long after. Nothing is more pleasing than getting paid for doing something that you are already doing, which is blogging.

In payperpost you can select the categories relevant to your interest, and write in your entry. You just have to incorporate the advertising elements within your posts. It’s as simple as that.

I have also learned that a few of my friends has also joined payperpost and I am happy that I’m in the community as well. Now we have another conversation piece to talk about during parties and outings.

Singapore Rocks!!

Just came back today from Singapore, and all I can say is that; "Singapore Rocks!!" Me, Aiza, Tini & Fariz had a blast.. 85% of my shopping list cleared and so does my wallet! :P

To utilise our time, we've split into two; the girls went out for craft related items, while the boys went out to drool on gadgets :D Well more than drool actually. When we met again in the evening, we are equally matched with shopping bags like we're buying a week's worth of groceries and that unmistakable million dollar grin on everyone faces. Thats only day one!!

Well.. I'm actually pooped, so if you don't mind; I will update on the trip later-on with more details. Till then, consider this a preview (*_^) Goodnite and thank you Singapore.

LHDN II : Save My Hard Earned Money

With the recent additional tax I had to pay, it prompted me to find ways to reduce or better still pay no income tax at all. Currently I only submit rebates for books, computers and life insurance and evidently it is not sufficient for me to be tax free.

I know there are lots of tips online on tax savings, but eureka!! I've found a local monthly publication "Personal Money" by the Edge that highlights on "26 Ways to Slash Taxes". Just what I've been looking for :)

I can't share all the 26 tips in respect of the publication. However to highlight a few from the article, I've just recently learned that tax rebate for books are now at RM 1000 instead of RM500. I also found out that we are entitled for RM300 rebate for sports equipment and the high 1 to 1 ratio of Zakat rebate. Others are on medical, life insurance, company car, EPF contribution and education to name a few more.

I find the article useful and its up to me now to keep track of all my receipts. For now, with the this first purchase of magazine for the year; I have another RM 991 to spend on books for full rebate :D

Breakfast anyone?

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day". In my opinion it provides you with energy throughout the day, keeps you sharp and with the right food it promotes fat loss. Nowadays it difficult to get a good breakfast at the office; its either too oily or too fatty. There is simply no balance between protein and carbs, not to mention the cholesterol levels.

Few years back (when I'm in shape :P), I used to bring breakfast and sometimes lunch to office. That was when 7.30 is still ok to start the journey to office. Now its no later than 7.05 or my punch card will be red. To compensate for the time; sometimes I would prepare cut fruits the night before but mostly I would customise my breakfast at the cafeteria.

Fed up of having unhealthy breakfast at the cafeteria, recently I've decided to stock some food at my workstation. Nestum, Digestive biscuits, Milo, Toastlimo bread, peanut butter and etc. Here's my current favorite breakfast: Milo 3 in 1 + a hefty portion of Nestum!

However on weekends, when I'm at home; my all time favorite, my comfort food is poach egg on lightly buttered fresh toast + salt and coarse fresh ground peppers.. nyum!!!

Singapore IT Show 2008

Singapore IT Show 2008 is just around the corner, from 6th to 9th March 2008 to be more specific. The best thing is that; I am going for this event! WoohooOO!! I've missed this event a couple of times being a week too early or late in Singapore trips. This year I've managed to arrange the trip down south to coincide with the event.

Being a tech geek, I am hoping that this IT Show will showcase some of the latest gadgets & electronics instead of just selling stuffs. The official event website did highlight that they will showcase the Latest & Most Comprehensive electronic gadgets.

Munching on my expense..

Help!!! Pesky white ants is chewing on my Lego Chess Set! I quote back from my previous posting on LHDN:

In the process of retrieving my income tax file, I've discovered that my wardrobe has been attacked by termites!! #$@%^%^%!!! got to clean that mess also.

Well that is not the whole story.. a month prior to that incident, I have to clean my storage boxes on top of my wardrobe which the critters is happily munching (sorry no photos on that). I had 2 laden black garbage bags filled from that occasion alone.

Then a week after the LHDN discovery, I found out that they are also eating my wardrobe cabinet. I accidentally discovered it while cleaning the white ant trail whereby when I stepped on the flooring it just gave in. See the photos below, of what I had to cope with..

The whole flooring crumbled like cream crackers.. Being an Ikea product, I can just buy a new flooring to replace it. However, as I am typing this entry; I can hear them now munching on the side panels. Nothing can be done but be ready to clean the mess they leave behind.

Normal mosquito spray and the solution used by professional exterminators doesn't seem to have any effect. Still looking for an alternative solution for the whole house.

From my numerous encounters I can share that the white ants:

1. Prefer to munch on brown boxes (non-bleached type), so better buy the pretty white boxes with laminated surface which is slightly expensive

2. Same goes for books, they prefer the brown paperback books than the heavy bleached magazine papers

3. For now they are are chewing on cheap board, my pine wood shelving still untouched (fingers crossed)

4. Don't keep magazine, books or boxes on the floor.. they will start to eat it if item not moved for sometime.

Hopefully this list could help you guys to curb unpleasant infestation.. my advice is for you to check as much as you can if you know your neighborhood has a white ant colony.

LHDN : "Money Back within a Month"

Remember a couple of weeks back, when there were lots of adverts in the newspaper on improving the public service by the government? Amongst them are by the Immigration Department on passport renewal within 1 hour, new passport in 1 day and Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri on money back within one month for excess tax payment.

One fine day when I came back from work, I saw an envelope from LHDN. I was happy to see it as imagined it was the cheque for the sum that they owed me, just like in the papers. Suprise.. surprise.. its not a cheque as I expected but JA statement requesting me to pay more taxes for the year 2004, 2005 & 2007 (RM 4 figures). What the #@%$&%$#!!!

Lucky I have all my documentations & receipts straight, as my record goes; I had paid all my taxes and there were excess for the year 2006 which I haven't received a refund. In the process of retrieving my income tax file, I've discovered that my wardrobe has been attacked by termites!! #$@%^%^%!!! got to clean that mess also.

Anyways.. I had to take leave to rectify this with LHDN before I got penalty for late payment. It was a half day affair, having it checked at a branch near my home; I discovered that the tax amount requested was on my bonuses for the years mentioned. However the officer did recalculate and gave me a new sum with deductions of my excess amounts which lowers it down to only RM 3 figures.

The office then informed that; I have the option to deduct the sum from my salary for x number of months. However I choose to pay the sum in full. Can I pay at this branch? No, this branch doesn't accept payment, however can pay at the bank behind this LHDN brach. Payment direct to LHDN can only be made at Jalan Duta Main Office.

I chose to pay at LHDN Jalan Duta on the same day as; I was on leave and since they took a few years to calculate my tax, I couldn't imagine how many months it would take to update my payment from the bank. Remembering back now on what the LHDN officer told me at the counter;

"payment through banks will take 2-3 days to update, however keep your payment-slip for reference"

Not so assuring and one might think that it will not be updated at all from this statement :P Apart from from this, I do would like to note that our LHDN officers are very helpful, friendly and seems sincere in wanting to help during my dealings. To that I thank them :)

Dasyatnye.com Has Its Own Domain

Since domain names nowadays are getting cheaper, I've decided to get one for my blog. It is also to commemorate this blog's comeback after being inactive for nearly a year. At the current moment I'm still using hosting services from bloggers, however I'm happy to announce as from this post onwards, the new url to my blog will be :

To benefit other readers from various parts of the world (if any), dasyatnye is a Malay word. The correct spelling is "dasyatnya" however I choose the former which is sort of a street slang. The definition could be found here in the Online Webster Dictionary, however to me dasyatnye can bring two meanings as explained in these scenarios.

"When you encountered, heard from someone or experienced on something exciting - dasyatnye!! (upbeat) awesome!!, cool!!, wow!!"

"When you heard bad news from someone - dasyatnye.. (toned down) thats horrible.."

In this blog, I intent to write on; some personal journals, practical ideas, misc reviews, knowledge sharing, jokes, sale of misc items and etc. What I've mentioned is just a rough guide, based on my current interest. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy reading my blog as I did writing it.

My First Monopoly Set

After waiting for almost three weeks!! My "first" Monopoly set has finally arrived from the States. By "first" here refers to; literally my my first set and the first of THREE Monopoly sets which had arrived :D It's a bitter sweet moment though, as our customs slightly ripped the box while inspecting the package. Oh well.. nothing like a clear scotch tape couldn't fix.

By now you probably must be wondering as why did I buy a Monopoly set form the States when we can get it over here in Malaysia. Well my friends, just feast yourself on the photos below and you will understand why :)

Item is shipped in this plain white box, on the contrary with it's content. Which is...

Tadaaa.. not so your average Monopoly huh? This edition features a wooden gameboard which include games such as Monopoly, Scrabble, Chess, Checkers, Dominos & Poker Dice. Take that for a combo or space saving. All the game pieces are also made of wood except for the dices & dominos which are made of plastic and the Monopoly tokens which are diecast metal.

The Chess and Scrabble game pieces are kept in the wooden drawer at the bottom of the main gameboard and others as in the picture below in moulded velvet lined plastic. The Monopoly board when flipped over is the Scrabble board and vice-versa. Overall I'm satisfied with the build quality and the materials used.

There's nothing much to explain about the gameplay as these are classic boardgames as many had played, easy to learn, strengthen family ties, make new friends and most of all FUN to play. I can't wait to have a go with this new game!! Anyone interested to join in is welcomed. It may sound funny coming from a adult but, the game did say 8+ on the box :D

Monopoly Here & Now : The World Edition - Vote for Our Country

It's been a while since I've last updated, but this Monopoly voting has made me itching for a post :)

I'm sure somewhere along the line when we are all growing up, we either had played or heard about the Monopoly board game. It's a fun family game for young and the old. I've never heard anyone who didn't have fun while playing the Monopoly.

In fact, this is a game that you can recall to this day when you're playing with your brothers, sisters, parents or friends which makes you smile by just remembering the moment.

To me, I had never owned a Monopoly set (yet?) but I had the chance to play it at my granduncle's house. It is an old Monopoly set which I can still recall where he placed it, where we played and who we played with. It's just memories like these which are priceless and brings misty to your eyes, at least to me :)

Thats in the 1980's, since then Monopoly had produced numerous editions of this classic board game such as Monopoly Deluxe Edition, Anniversary Edition, Star Wars Edition and etc (extensive list could be found at BoardGameGeek).

Today, Monopoly will be adding another edition to its list which is "Here & Now : The World Edition". This version will feature Cities across the Globe including Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia, if selected. Uncle Pennybags (the top hat character above) has pre-selected 68 cities including ours, and its up to us to vote for our country. The top 20 will make it into this World Edition, currently Malaysia ranks at 50.

Umm.. I've missed a month plus of blogging.. what can i say other than >> i was occupied :P lots of things had happened though.. my best buddies Yang & Lenny had their baby girl ~~Ayla~~ Alya Mysarah.. and throughout the month of November to December catched a few gigs/shows/movies etc

That's 2005 story.. Most unexpectedly though for 2006.. (seriously last minute) I've tagged along with Laydiefa, far1z, mysara & phyruzze for a new year vacation in Bali.. yes.. you've got it right.. Bali.. eheh.. It's my second time there (last trip was end Nov04) but still I've enjoyed it.. to me the whole island is a showcase.. the buildings there are so different (temple like).. the people are so devoted to their customs.. friendly and every tourist is a millionaire.. well on arrival that is (haha).. of course.. not to forget that i have good companions also.

We were greeted with a drizzle upon arrival in Bali.. but that didn't dampened our spirits.. explored nearby territory as soon as we've checked to our hotel.. over the 5 days we crashed at Bakung Beach Cottage in the vicinity of Kuta (15 min walk from the famed Kuta beach). It is safe to say that it was a shopping trip.. judging on time spent & the additional baggages & boxes.. however we did cover half of Bali for site seeing.. went to Kintamani (volcano), Ubud (Art & Craft town), Sukawati and Jimbaran (beach).

Highlights for the trip was:

Breakfast Babi (pls excuse the language) >> no we didn't have it, but it was in the menu
50% Surf Shop >> All Billabong goodies 50% off & litteraly at the doorstep or our hotel
Pizza Hut >> Menu was different & a lot more compared with ours, tasty & dirt cheap
Spontanious Shopping >> one of the highlight cause its difficult to break the bank when you're shopping here
Dinner at Jimbaran >> Sharing lobster on the beach facing the sea

hi all, thousand appologies for the long overdue updates.. nowadays i'm quite occupied.. however to get things rolling back into normal pace.. i start off with this short entry..

a few weeks back.. went to ikano with Laydiefa.. and after breaking fast, we headed to the world of cartoon to look for a birthday present.. while one of us browsing for the present.. a loud cracking sound breaks in the background..

Latety things has been eventful and cheery.. but to add things up.. last friday.. in a dark corner of the basement.. we're (me - driver, zai & afza - back passengers) waiting for Yang to be yanked down by Lenny from da office for lunch..

while waiting.. da boys at da back we're toying around their newly acquired 3G phones.. hey the phones were great n they're buzy chatting bout its funtionalities.. 5 minutes lapsed n finally i saw the sight of Yang n Lenny in my wing mirror..

both promptly opened the door n enters the car.. i've shifted into reverse and when i was about to move.. when suddently.. "Weeiieeeh!!!" afza yelled.. i hit da brakes *stop*.. tot i was about to hit a car or something.. tgk.. xde pape pon.. semua or blank.. then..

apza (to Yang): "ko ni masuk2 terus pegang je"..
yang : "mane laa aku tau.. masuk2 tgk korang tgh main handphone.. aku pon nak carik hp laa ni"

hahaha *giggle* ..(weih korang aku x tahan laa nk perabih blog ni.. volenteer laa sesape nak perabih..) fuh.. fuh.. anyhow.. only after we've learned what had happened.. kitaorg gelak gedabas dalam kete tu.. x bole drive beb.. kena calm down a bit.. baru boley.. :)

lawyers may find it essential to refer past preceedings to defend its client, engineers could save lives from analyzing past events..

many more examples could be listed.. some may be accurate n some not so.. but don't take this seriously sbb i dunno squat what i'm rambling kat atas td.. saje je buat drama.. haha..

actually juz want to talk bout the simple2 things masa dulu yg kita encounter slalu that we've take for granted. tp kalu kita pikir balik on all those stuff.. it may bring good memories which cld make us smile, giggle.. probably.. da ones yg wenthru their childhood during the 80's may have the same wavelenght n know what i'm talking about..

take Tic Tac for example.. sampai sekarang ada lagi.. fr initial price of 70 cents to 1.50.. nowadays seldom do i buy this sweet treat.. but when i do.. couldn't help but remember the good old times.. whre life is far less complecated and full of happiness.. no doubt cause its called childhood..

Tic Tac isn't juz a yummy treat.. it's also an avenue to explore our imagination.. the commom thing you do with the container is pretend that its a lighter n.. puffing away you would go on a rolled piece of paper.. or fill it up with water, find a puddle n fill the thing with tadpoles.. use it as a granade.. keep ants.. the list goes on..

then they were Kam-Kam.. the chickadees that comes with a toy.. ade one time tu.. the toy was the robot plane of robotech.. a popular anime series tat time.. so mmg hari-hari laa beli.. n another.. i dunno if u guys pernah makan or not (i know some pernah).. ade this biskut.. its round like oreos but kaler lite brown.. n instead of cream.. derang letak sort of red kaler jem yg liat.. cicah dgn teh 'o' mmg besh.. the dough goes mushi.. but jem dia maintain liat..

ok ok.. takkan psal makan je tak.. tv shows pon also gives a good flashback.. apart from hindustan yg almost everyday tayang fr 3.30 - 6.00.. i guess tats why i'm sick to watch it today.. there also tv shows like 'V'.. alaa citer alien (look like human) yg makan orang.. animals n insects.. n bila kulit terkupas nampak hijau.. then they were.. star trek (same result as hindustan.. get sick of it also).. knight rider.. million dollar man/woman.. get smart.. magnum p.i.. the green hornet.. batman.. kungfu.. n wah byk lagi.. wow.. didn't know tat i'm tat much of a couch potato..

anyhow ade byk lagi stuffs yg bring back good memories.. this is juz a few which i'm sharing.. its a good conversational piece.. bridging frendships.. keep us sane.. n i guess it unlimitted as on which angle u're lookin at.. apa2 pon.. realizing this.. i could't help but wonder.. ape pulak would be the things that would be an icon in our lives for the next 10 years.. for now music fr da 90's is retro for me.. n perhaps.. malibu dreams n hazelnut coffee will be the thing of the future past for me.. what bout u guys.. things tat dig u in da past n the 'will be' for future?

dasyatnye.. gen2 jejak merdeka

So what did i do last Merdeka celebration? as u've probably had known from Laydiefa's post, i've joined her in a treasure hunt contest for Gen.2 owners.. funny thing is, for me the hunt started a tad earlier than the official date.. why? because i've got to find the briefing venue somewhere in UEP.. no biggie eh? well.. took me 2 days.. haha..

da first day i've got about 2 hrs to kill before i have to head back n pickup my parents.. so i've rang my proton sales rep.. n he guided me a bit by saying to me to go out of federal right before the toll.. n go straight toward usj16.. i think to myself ok.. tats simple enuf.. but actually.. find myself lost in glenmarie.. subang airport, subang jaya n usj.. and the darkness of the nite n many constructions along da way didn't help.. there were numerous u-turns.. some legal n.. erm.. some not so.. but i'm following my brother's philosophy which is "There are no dead ends in a journey, only long or short due to how many u-turns u've done". tat nite i didn't find the venue..

second attempt i was prepared as a map to the venue has been posted in a forum.. so it was an easy drive towards the destinations.. managed to spot where i've done wrong da nite before.. is was in fact at usj 12.. so i was looking at the wrong area.. uereka! found it.. being in an industrial area on a sunday afternoon where the Proton COE is.. its like a ghost town.. there were no cars nor ppl around.. i can stop in the middle of the junction for 15 minutes n still no cars would pass by..

pleased with the find.. i've decided to look for alternate routes on my way back.. belok kanan.. then belok kiri.. ek'elen i said to myself.. mcm kenal je masjid ni.. rupa2nya the venue is right behind taipan.. the area slalu kitaorg stopover for drinks after futsal.. buang karen je.. hehe.. :p well.. at least skrg ni i know some of the nook and crannies of the places that i've been lost.. fr an initial of zero knowledge of the area..

a day before the treasure hunt.. went there with Laydiefa for the briefing and we're among the first to arrive.. they gave us cucur udang and mihun for tea.. being first timers.. i think both of us listened to the briefing carefully.. got our lucky competition number 218.. and the next morning the hunt starts at 7.00 am.. so we made our move somewhere in the versinity of 5.45 to 6.00 am.. reached there by quater to 7.00.. by then.. there were already a large number of Gen.2s arrived. had our breakfast ther.. it was mihun and sandwiches.. a bit of a delay but after a pumped up Merdeka roar at 7.30 it stared and off we go..

so my duty was as the navigator.. haha.. dun wory.. minding aside my previous track record.. we didn't get LOST :P uor journey would take us from USJ > Taipan > Glenmarie > TTDI > Hartamas and finally Petronas Gombak (da on with Burger King). there were 30 questions that we had to complete, plus an additional 5 on road safety. at almost every sector we'd pull over n walk to search for the answer.. n a few we had to use talian hayat.. Laydiefa's sister was a big help on a few of the question.. she on standby at home with internet.. 4 hrs passed and we finally at the final leg of the journey heading towards Petronas.

elok2 je sampai.. hand in our answers.. hujan pon turun.. so had lunch and waited for the rain to ooze down a bit before heading up to Genting. Genting?? yup.. for prize presentation & luck draw.. moving along.. yada.. yada.. during dinner the answers were projected in the ballroom.. n ppl would go oOooo.. aAargh.. in reaction of the answers including us.. in the end.. we did ok considering that we're first timers.. again mihun was part of the menu served..

notice that i've italisice the word Mihun throughout this entry.. tats because.. thay have been serving us Mihun 3 times.. recycle ke ape ni? hehe.. to be frank.. i dun think i can eat Mihun for at least another week.

back to the results.. treasure hunt nyer prize mmg dh xde harapan.. cause the top ten winners all were 97% and above.. so was hoping for the lucky draw which were 5 Gen.2s up for grabs.. but the one that is allocated for central region were 2 units. as to make things transparent.. the draw took lots of time before the first number being read.. it was 00XX.. aaaa.. mmg jauh from 0218.. the next same process.. still waing.. n when the number being read.. 02XX.. haa.. ade harapan ni.. then.. piok x4.. tak kena daa.. habis dah chan kitaorg..

anyhow.. its not tat frustrating at all.. sbb cabutan tu among 264 cars.. and total from all regions was 647.. so ok laa.. mmg sape dpt tu mmg lucky n rezeki.. there are some things that can't be compared with goods.. i had tons of fun.. n my congratulations to the lady pilot whom had drove us safely and sucessfuly participate in this event. kampai.

dasyatnye.. da old gym is finally closed..

looks like the day finally came.. its been buzzing arround since last year that the old gym will be closed.. last friday was the end of it.. when i went ther.. the multistation has been disassembled..

i can't exactly recall when but roughtly it must have been in march 2002 that i've started.. da guys at the gym are wonderful.. jepp n zaha r the veterans that lasts till today.. memula join mmg kena buli laa.. for me.. ade ke tingkap tengah yg sealed diorg suroh bukak.. puas aku mencari handle nk bukak.. terkena aku.. haha.. btul x Zai? by da way.. yes Zai dulu ikut aku jugak turun gym.. haa jgn teperanjat.. siap dpt gelaran "kentang".. i guess thats why he retired.. takut2 dpt gelaran lain..

i also don't exactly know why i started to go to the gym.. but niniez might hv her version of da story where she claimed i'm a different guy after LeTour.. :P hehe.. could be true since i'm not sure.. however.. eversince.. da gym has been my oasis after work.. where i go sweat out n chill with da guys.. with the opening of our new office next door.. there was also a new gym that came with it.. been ther a couple of times but we still prefer the old one.. cse..

- where else in the office you can shout what u want without anyone care..
- where else can u hit da gym without shoes or shirt when u forget to bring it..
- where else can u celebrate your birthday at the gym.. with food & cakes..
- where else can u find a high turnover of newbies.. since they can't bear the mental game.. :P
- where else can u find good lifting partner where sometimes they juz leave u hanging with a 100 pound bar on your chest juz for fun..

so this is a tribute to the gym that has changed my life.. from the busted lifecycle n rusted barbell.. it doesn't matter in what condition the equipments were.. its how u adapt n use whats available to you.. its truly is a private gym for us since many come and go.. i shall miss that environment very much.

When someone calls and asks you whether you're busy or not? it is always polite to say "sure i've got a moment" eventhough you're busy. That's my standard answer eventhough i know that the person on the line is from a telemarketing company.

If its insurance they're selling, then it wouldn't be not much of a problem since easy to dismiss them. just you mention that you've bought the full policy and the conversation will end a brief moment afterwards. Previosly when I didn't bought my policy yet, I would inform them that I've just joined the work force and I want to spend all my monthly earnings. usually they would understand when you tell them in a nice manner.

If its a holiday package, discount card etc.. then it will be rather tricky. Some of them is rather persistant, they still ask you to listen to them eventhough stated clearly that you've not interested. In the end they're the ones that will be frustrated and mad at us when we didn't make a purchase. I don't like to be forced into buying something that i don't "plan" to buy. I would like to read and find out more about a service or a product before spending your hard earned money. (Unless on vacation :P)

Yesterday, again I've received a call from a telemarketing company, the telemarketer is promoting a discount card for Melia Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This call was a bit different cause you can clearly distiguish that this is a newby. She was rather nervous and unprepared while promoting the package. I've stopped my work for a while to pay attention to her, she then explained that with the card it entittles me to:

- half rate for a stay at the hotel
- 3rd day free when you've stayed for 2 nites
- RM500 credit, to be used for dining at the hotel
- yada yada..

When she asks me whether I'm interested? I replied that I'm living in KL and I'm more comfortable to go back home at the end of the day. She responded by re-affirming me that the card also entittles me for discount at other Melia branches namely.. erm.. namely... couldn't find the location, she'd just mention Penang and Sabah.. but its not Melia.

To cut things short, one of the interesting perks of this discount card that I've actually want to highlight and share to you guys is:

Melia is giving 20% off when you die at its restaurant.

Got it? Die? Haha.. i guess she meant to say was "Dine".. and this was during the yada yada point above.. so you can just imagine how I'm holding my urge to laugh.. but tak sampai hati.. she'd sound very sincere.. to laugh in front of her would be rude and discouraging.. afterall dia pon nak cari makan..

well.. thats the closest that i've bought anything via the phone offer out of sympathy.. i hope she improves and be less nervous.. but to the veterans.. don't think i've soften and sucumb to your offers... i will keep my stance :P

last two week was dinner at the hospital.. what? naa.. no worries it's not me.. juz visiting some of our dear mommies to be in the hospital..

first up was Ika.. well.. she's in her 8th month now when suddently a false alarm breaks.. keeping details descreet.. let me juz say that the baby decided to do some streching and mommy got bear the pain.. no pain no gain rite? :P while papa practices for the go-kart championship while driving mommy to the hospital :)

naturally.. Lenny, Yang & meself visited ika & zai (her hubby.. but err.. sometimes felt like he's the patient)whenever we could after office since ika is at ampang puteri, so it's on our way back. after office = no dinner.. and if we had our dinner first then visit ika.. it would be late etc.. so.. beli je laa makanan n berkampung kat hospital tu.. it turned out to be a new hang-out place for the week..

next up was our lass Lenny.. hmm.. ape eek.. byk sangat gelak kot? naa.. jgn mara eek.. well actually.. Len landed herself in the hospital rite after lunch hr the following week due to stomach cramps.. da cause of the cramps? well could be her turbulent coughing which pulled a muscle or side effects of the new medication..

alhamdulillah.. both of them are already out of the hospital n resting at home.. looking at it.. this may what my mom & pop had been thru my eldest brother and finally me.. enduring all the susah.. payah.. i love u mom & pop..

Ika & Len & daddies.. all the best.. insyaAllah all will be fine.. looking foward for a new member in da group.. take care.

hehey.. it's been awhile since i've posted anything n same goes to ma buddies len & afza.. nowadays we're quite occupied with our work where Yang is having constant training.. Len is now handling live production.. Afza.. well he's bz too, on db restructure is it? n me on divisional web.. it doesn't sound that tuff.. but when you've got a tight dateline n 8 product owners to assist.. it's a game of keeping your head cool to keep on track.. alhamdulillah its done but juz got another assignment but this time its a dynamic page.. arrgh.. in spite of that i need to thank Syah for assisting n polishing my web skills.

on the other hand.. the one that we've least expect to make an update had done so.. surprisingly zai had revamped and updated his page.. dasyatnye.. congrats bro n keep those poetry coming..

nevertheless how busy we were.. we did manage to squeeze time to meet during lunch.. even though not all were present at any given time.. we do meet at least once throughout the week.. oh ya.. with me getting back Blackie more than two weeks back.. we’ve been havin lunch outside our office premises.. may it be bangsar area.. mid valley.. pj and sometimes as far as sri hartamas.. its a retaliation period for me since i’ve lost Blackie for nearly 3 weeks.. juz can’t get enuff driving in da car.. any excuse will do.. i guess its also a chance for me to relax in between work..

weekends.. usually I like to wake up early n do stuff like clean my room, have b’fast while watching tv or sometimes i go out for a jog.. but none of that took place few weeks back.. my room is a mess.. stuff is piling everywhere.. n forget bout breakfast or jogging.. its lunch n ready to get out when I’m up for the weekend.. i feel tired most of the time.. i guess that da toll for that extra brain crunching.. thats why I didn’t update my page for so long.. mentally I’m tired.. didn’t want to do anything complex after work..

however.. i don’t like the direction which i’m heading.. not to mentioned that I’ve gained weight thru my changing habits n appetite.. that is why wrote this update.. i want to fix myself n get back on track.. to be healthy and fit again.. so i can do both work and personal activities.. enjoying while doing it.. my goal is to lose 12 pounds in two weeks.. that way i'll stay focused and fit. juz for fun and more importantly as a motivation.. i'll be placing a bet.. if i don't manage to reach my goal.. i'll have to blanja u guys.. so wish me luck? haha..

in summary.. it has been hectic & tiring pass few weeks but.. there are moments which i’ve enjoyed like having “dinner” at the hospital with ika n da guys.. catching movies.. weekly badminton game.. completed my assignment.. n Yang’s birthday picnic.. hoping for a good week ahead n wishing u guys da same too.. :)

Alhamdulillah.. with all the uncertainties in our work schedules.. at last sampai gak hasrat “orang” kaya bangsar untuk menjejak kaki dibumi asing.. Like all our previous trips.. we did some homework on where to stay & what to do once in Singapore...

27th June 2005. However.. Singapore seems to be da most difficult and unpredictable trip by far.. fuh.. fenin kepala kitaorg dibuatnye esp nk carik accommodations.. nice ones semua dah fully booked.. tinggal yg cam cap “ayam” nyer (within budget laa)..

Lepas cam smua org dah putus asa.. Len pon terjumpe laa one hotel ni.. its out of the shopping area but ok laa dekat ngan MRT.. kitaorg pon dgn senang hatinya buat online booking..

tat nite kitaorg ade game badminton.. so gi main badminton jap.. tmrw nye i plak kena gi Terengganu for 2 days.. flight at 7.30 am.. so kena kluar rumah kol 5.00 am!!

28th June 2005. Bad news.. hotel yg kitaorg book online.. tak dapat cse full jugak.. i ckp ngan da geng kita redah je laa.. nnt once ther kita carik hotel.. smua setuju..

29th June 2005. Arrived home in KL by 10.00 pm.. unpack clothes and pack again for Singapore trip.. hit da deck by 1.00 am.. according to the program.. Yang & Len will pick me up in the morning..

30th June 2005. D-day.. Yang & Len came at 8.00 am.. shove my bag in the trunk n off we go to… ermm.. “breakfirst” at Projet :P after full tank.. human and car.. made our way to JB.. start off at sg besi toll at 9.20 and reached JB at quarter to one!!

Footlong for Bfast.. Good hearty meal eh..

Singgah jap kat City Square for lunch.. scout around da vicinity for travel agent.. kot2 ble tolong book hotel.. tuff luck.. xde gak and we wasted precious time.. pas beli milo ais for lenny.. we were on our way to the car and we were about to pass by this homeless guy.. I was holding my back pack in front takut2 ade pick pocket.. a few feet passed he shouted “buukaaaak beg kaamuuuuu!!!!!”

mak aih.. terkejutz.. and my response was “ takpe.. takpe..” everyone around looked at us.. tp mmg Yang was da first one to giggle.. mmg tak tahan laa kelakar.. sbb.. pakcik tuh.. sebutan dia dengan penuh perasaan n mcm ade aura.. zaaass.. haha.. tat was da joke of da day.. still laughing while in da q at causeway.. n..

Entered Singapore by 2.30 pm.. haha.. Yang plak bile masuk Singapore bersopan-santun tuh driving.. signal.. and da tuff part for him I think to keep da car under 90 kp/h.. driving gear 4 je.. KL-JB tuh x hengat nye.. sampai x nampak meter.. navigating to our destination to orchard was a breeze with the map we’ve bought..

Tried to find accommodation with a local tour agent but.. x pat gak.. at last we took matters in our own hand after a handy advice from the tour agent.. around the area there are a few cheap hotels but.. after we’ve done some research over da internet and after a few calls.. we’ve got our hotel at Bencoolent street off Orchard road.. location wise its juz at the end of orchard and near to a MRT station.. checked in and out half an hour after for our first glimpse of great Singapore sale.. took da MRT, 2 stops ahead reached orchard and walked our way back to the hotel..

Did I mention da 7 -11 in front of our hotel? Mmg besh.. its our official launch pad in da morning for breakfast and retreat after whole day spent at orchard.. if I would say da ambiance is very relaxing at the 7-11 ther.. ppl would call me crazy (if u imagined the 7-11 ther same like ours) but its true.. the place is very comfortable with free wi-fi.. cheap imported chocolates.. good hot food.. tapi.. tis one for mysara.. xde pon black & white m&m’s?

Official lunch plak throughout da trip.. was Burger King.. lepas meracun bebudak ni yg we cannot convert dr sing dollar to RM (sbb nnt x enjoy da trip n da fact dat u x compare food price) Len & Yang.. waa.. murah je ni makan berger king.. satu set baru 6 ringgit!! (in-reality 6 sg dollars) haha.. official food for me was the double rendang burger.. sedap sehh.. naseb baik derang x bwk masuk m’sia.. kalu x lingkop aku.. :P yang plak enjoyed the double BBQ turkey ham burger.. we’ve tasted most yg xde kat m’sia.. perangai I mmg camtu.. like to try something new..

Ok.. since Len & Yang had never been to Singapore.. I’ve had planned a small agenda on what to do & see.. amongst them are..

But it turns out that we’ve spent most of our time in Singapore at Orchard Road.. For? what else? Shopping!! Item 3-6 je yg jadi.. others simply scrapped.. Actually this is the first time I’ve seen Yang turn-on bout shopping.. Slalu cam kalu kluar memane xde pon dia beli barang.. but i don’t blame him.. selection kat Singapore memang bebinau mate nak memilih.. there’s loads of quality stuffs that u can purchase at 20% to 30% cheaper.. heck.. some dunno whether its cheap or not simply bcse xde kat M’sia..

tgh makan eskrem.. n Lenny tgh tunggu Yang tgk beg..

Itu lah our daily activity sampailah ke hari yg nak balik tuh.. mmg kluar hotel kul 9.30 pagi.. & return by 11.00 at nite.. bafore naik bilik.. sempat dulu wusha "ayam" singapore n main pool.. its only on saturday nite when Zai & Ika came to join with us.. kitaorg balik hotel lambat at around 2 am kot.. cse we went to Mustafa.. the 24hrs drooling shop.. memula ingatkan kedai dia cam Mydin kat KL.. rerupanya.. cam Harrots kat London.. smua benda ble beli kat dlm kedai tuh.. dari electronics.. jewelary (x penah aku tgk gold 1 floor on display).. pharmacy.. clothes.. etc2.. da list goes on and on.. haha.. kat sini Yang bought his new LCD TV..

chillin out.. havin a break..kat kedai Pen SGD410.. btol Yang?

Oh ya.. dlm our buzy schedule shopping.. at least berjaya laa jugak kitaorg complete mission sebenar (well partially) trip ni iaitu makan kenduri kawin Shiima & Zam.. a fren of mine during uni dayz.. we bid u congratulations and may u be blessed with a happy life ahead as husband & wife. amin.

Overall.. da trip was fun and a success (ni blom tgk cc statement).. tot da guys on my non-conversion & averaging theory (averaging = kalu dh terbeli smthing yg mahal.. beli smtg similar cheaper to average da price) haha.. its safe to say that this is a shopping trip and we shall return someday for a tour of the rest.. (yeah rite!!)

Whoa.. What causes a person to despise another so much? Is it really the action of the other had done or is it your ego or is it your so called principles? If so.. how long are you going to keep up with it? Demm..

Its not me that is in the situation but inderectly i'm in da middle of it.. taking shrapnel as da bombs blasts off arround me.. trying to keep a balance as not to be a hypocrite to both parties..

Da problem sparked from a remark made on a certain task by the other which obviously offended.. since then they have been in separate terms..if the person could investigate and analyse why for such comments.. i think things would get better.. however such comments should be of a constructive criticism and a bit sensitive to the others..

tried in my own way to ease thing between both but without avail.. everytime i tried to put in a good word, it had been cut off.. if i push further then i'll be the one getting my head chopped off.. it feels like i'm da pawn being used by both to get what they want..

heck, with all da work loads piling.. i've got no choise but have that last cigerete (i don't smoke) in front of the firing squad.. do my own business as much and as fast as i can before the DEADline. but i'm lucky as to have a friend(s) to light up my smoke.

i hope i didn't put much details as i fear their identites would be revealed.. though i need to get this out as clear my mind and as a reminder to think rationnaly if i ever get cought in this situation.. i wish them all the best and pray things will get better.

I'm sad but not depressed to announce that blackie had involved in a minor accident last saturday.. it was due to the @#&%*@#$ driver whom had @#$%$%&#@ #@$%$%%$@&.. Haha.. Anyhow.. lets look at the police report shall we..

This is my first police report so mmg perak sikit laa.. firstly on top of the report.. ade laa all my partulars, ctc no, address etc.. below is my statement, un-edited as proffessionally drafted by da police for the report.. (terrer jek datuk tu rangka.. sure byk accident dia dah buatkan)..

(dah cool skit) bunyi ade tadi.. hmm.. bile tutup je pintu driver baru nampak.. demm x10k..

first thing i said to the driver was.. "camne abang bawak kete ni? kan tu lane kona kanan tu.. ape laaa" then his wife nyampuk something.. but it was like implying why i turned right? and i replied.. "cuba akak tgk cat kat atas jalan tu..kan lane tengah ni untuk gi terus dan kanan.. saya dah siap signal ni (me showing them da signal which was still on)" then smua senyap..

to make it easier to visualize, the scene of the accident took place kat simpang bawah jejambat ke Ukay Perdana.. actually we were in da front row at the traffic light.. my right indicator lights were on.. and when the lights turned green i was da first car to move off.. i've passed the car on the right.. but biasa laa kena lajak sikit before turning sbb taknak makan lane org.. half way lookin thru my side mirror.. dia baru nak gerak.. i was at my turning point then.. krup!!.. sound of metal banging..end of story

then i suroh pindah our cars cause were in da middle of the junction.. after accessing our damages.. ajak derang gi balai to report kat ampang.. so dapatlaa report yg kat atas tadi tu.. actually the way we cakap kat tgh simpang tuh not that heated up pon.. juz maintaining cool n presenting the facts..

all is not lost.. Alhamdulillah i'm not injurred and there is some luck left as da accident didn't cause any damage to the quater panel.. juz have to replace the door.. but ironically when i started my car on that day.. the mileage meter was 4 4 4 4 freaky huh!!

The weekend wasn't a total bust.. afterwards hooked up with some delicious kebabs at ampang point.. managed to get my favourite comic footrot flats at a second-hand book store.. Nuthing beats the combination remedy of good food and a good laugh :)

Guys.. juz nak share this bizarre sale at Bangsar Village set up by Factory Outlet Store (FOS) depan supermarket.. i went there pagi semalam around 11.00 am to buy some goods for my office.. then saw this sign saying - RM 3 for a jersey.. takde laa branded tapi tiga ringgit tuh.. ble pakai buang.. haha.. material pun ok.. but demm.. x sempat nak angkat time tuh cse my bos ade n we're rushing to get back to office.. it's ok.. i though to myself petang nanti after work ble datang balik..

later that evening around 7.00pm.. went back to Bangsar Village.. but this time orang dah ramai.. n the jersey.. HABIS!! 2 basketfull of it gone.. dem x10.. evidenly when i asked the salesgirl.. dia cakap "Ada abang tu tadi beli semua skali.." Selambe.. i estimate the jersey ada dalam 80 to 100.. n semua dia beli.. dasyat tuh..

anyhow all is not loss.. they are also selling casual shirts, colar-t and t-shirts at RM 3, RM 5, RM 7 and RM 10.. its dirt cheap.. ppl are buying by the stacks.. including me which bought 3 shirts.. 2 colar-T and 3 t-shirt.. but if you're big sized.. don't waste ur time here.. they carry mostly size S, M n L (L-Limited.. x byk).. selection n design are not bad.. Ladies garments pon byk.. but mostly tops.. price also starts from RM 3 to RM 10..

So either ur on a tight budget.. or trying to save a few bucks.. while updating ur wardrobe.. this sale is definately a must.. sale is on till 6th June.. but looking at the rate its going.. i don't know if they have anything left to sell before it ends. :P

UPDATE: MONDAY, JUNE 6, 2005

Sorry! kinda late for this update.. but better late than never rite.. well at least thats how it goes on that particular day of the seminar.. earlier in the morning i was at Syah's house helpin him pack for pindah rumah and due to wrong judgement in time n KL traffic..i went ther a tad late missing a bit on hardware presentation.. in the seminar met up with niniez who had guide me via sms all da way to da hotel (nama je dok KL.. tp x tau the place :P) also present on that day was mysara & phyruzze..

In general.. the topics presented has been devided into 3 main categories as below:

1) Hardware selection (Camera functions)

Higher megapixel (mp) doesn't necessarily means quality output. Ask yourself "what's your requirement?" If you just want to print 4R photos, anything above 3mp is adequate. You only need higher mp if u want to blow the picture say 15 x 12 inch. Other than that it would be a waste of money and storage.

Choose something that u are comfortable with buy it, stop comparing and start shooting pictures.

Of course there is a basis on selection and the presenter had emphasized that the camera should at least has these functionalities embeded..

a) ISO
- da lower the ISO, the finer the photo will be
- da higer the ISO, more noise in da photo

b) White balance
- to accurately capture the colour (sunlight, floresent light, light bulp etc)

c) Appreture (how big the shutter opens)
- big, background image appears blur (good for potrait)
- small, all image sharp

d) Time priority (shutter speed)
- faster to capture say sporting events
- slower for nite scene

2) Basic composition

Tips on composition:
a) A story - ur photo has a story ie. a man making pottery, or a journey
b) Simplicity
c) Contrast - Pick a contrasting object as the main focus
d) Balance
e) Framing - use tree branches as frames
f) Rule of the third - if u take arts and when drawing a scenery, 1/3 bottom would be land/water and 2/3 above would be the horizon and sky
g) Colour harmony

3) Post editing

More on the iphoto software functionalities ie. - how to manage photos, remove red-eye, straighten a photo, colour adjustments etc. A few interesting tweaking tips which he shared in iPhoto are (if you're familiar with any imaging software ie. - ACDSee, Photoshop etc. you're covered):

a) try not to use the brighness and contrast so much (or at all) as it degrades the picture quality
b) adjust the exposure bright for morning light and warm for evening
c) adjust the colur balance ie. - add magenta to make the cheeks red for a fair person.

This is the post yg Len tak sabar2 menunggu..

It was thursday nite and we were on our way back from badminton.. Yang, Len & Sharul hitched along for a ride home.. and look what we've got to re-acquainted with..

tadaa.. lihatlah lampu2nya melintang dan terurai.. main focal point was the center piece.. it would glow a steady blue while da car is cuising and would "Lip-lap" bright purplish-reddish-tangerine colour once the driver hits da brakes.. mmg meriah laa.. haha

But actually its kinda freaky jugak since we've stumble upon this car again cause we were juz talkin bout it.. everybody was excited n tak expect to see it at the same time..

Lucky we had a camera but mmg susah laa nak dptkan gambar kereta ni.. cause the road was bumpy n we could not use da flash.. kitaorg followed the car from pekeliling monorail sampai laa simpang ke keramat.. byak jugak Yang amik gambar.. but most of it was blurry.. what u see is the best..

So guys.. i don't mind people decorating their car but this one is a bit eccentric and bold with the lampu Lip-Lap on a mercedes!!... Oh well.. but seriously i think it must be a malaysian version of pimp my ride.. What do you guys think?

Yup.. its official.. as of Monday this week.. my department has shifted to the next building.. to make way for external tenants.. many months of speculation.. when we're shifting finally came.. Our department since last week lagi dah busy packing.. lucky for me.. my stuff aren't many but penat gak laa.. sbb tolong akak2 kat sini dismantle & packing pc.. :)

Anyhow.. for my friends yg still remain kat menara or yg malas nk jenguk aku sbb jauh.. here's a view of my workstation.. and the surrounding area..

One thing i like the most bout tis building is the parking.. senang and banyak gile compared to menara.. nk bawak kete time lunch pon no wurries to find parking spot bile balik.. yelaa x ramai lagi kan.. anyhow i shall enjoy tis while it lasts.. :)

Sunday 1st May 05.. 12.40pm. Arrgh.. woke up late after a nite's marathon of Contender.. i'm plannin on goin to peterpan's gig at Planet.. show starts at 3pm.. sempat2.. Demm.. juz remembered.. got a kenduri to attend at Kelana Jaya.. Fast fwd mode and zas I'm out of da house..

On da way Aman msged me.. "r u goin to the gig?" me respond was "Yupp.. On da way" Zipped my way first to Kelana Jaya.. had my "Breakfast" of nasi minyak.. conveyed my congratulations to da lovely couple n off.. i go to pick up Aman.. it was already 30 minutes to 3.00..

Trafic was smooth till we hit Hang Tuah.. we're inching bit by bit down da Stadium Merdeka road.. stalls were already set-up selling Inol souvenirs.. trafic was really bad.. by da time we'd crawled pass Planet to park in Lot 10.. it was nearly 4.00pm.. still.. we didn'i put up our hopes.. n when we'd finally reached ther..

Haha.. Main entrance was shut closed with notice "All ticket holders must enter before 2pm".. like i had a ticket.. well.. still trying.. went inside to the back entrance and..

Same thing.. it's funny da reasons that these guys gave juz for a shot to get in.. some were..

"Can I use the toilet"

"Nak beli air laa bang"

"Kawan saya kat dalam"

n myself.. "Restoran tak bukak ke? Nak makan boleh?"

Of course none of the excuses were excepted.. but we're laughing havin fun even though we'd didn't get in.. all we could see is peterpan performing in the monitor.. no sound though.. well.. Time to split n but one last try.. the side entrance outside.. same thing.. except fans here are on the verge of breakdown.. some already had judging by their swollen eyes after crying..

As for me & Aman.. nothing to grumble about as we'd arrived late and unplanned. It's a gamble and we'd lost. Hope they would come again and perform.. perhaps at a bigger venue. Anyhow.. our time is not wasted.. diverted to Low Yatt to buy some supplies of CDRs (to burn peterpan songs).

Yesterday was an eventful evening.. went out to celebrate Lenny's birthday at Soul'ed Out.. every year as usual we would celebrate it together with our closest friends since our birthdays are not far apart..

Initially i thought that i couldn't make it bacause my gym buddies had booked me.. no details were provided except a convincing threat of what would happened if i bailed out last minute.. so after work i've meet up with them and...

Surprise!! Surprise!!

It turns out that they had secretly organised a birthday celeb for me.. thanks u guys for organizing this for me.. am very lucky to have friends like u.. the cheese cake was really nice.. pandai ko pilih Zaha.. tak sia2 tambah 4 pound balik.. ;P anyhow malam ni on ok.. satay at KLJ.

Ok.. back to Lenny's bufday bash.. it turns out this year we had an additional member to our annual event.. which is the giggly Ninie, lovely miss laydiefa, cute miss mysara and cool dude ~~Andrew~~ Adrian..

However.. this year an eating competition was held to spice up the event. Here.. the participants are listening to briefing of the competition.. Everyone understood what to do and the tittle at steak..

and.. the competition begins..

Not giving up.. here's Zai having a hard time finishing his meal midway of the competition...

Even our bufday gurl had a go in the competition..

But in the end it all prevails.. and the tittle goes to this one extraordinay lady which had amazed us throughout this competition.. and that person is no other than...

Zainee!!! Wow.. juz look at at the spread and whats left.. barely anything.. see what i mean.. lucky that ~~Andrew~~ Adrian acted fast.. if not.. even the onion rings.. "settle".. So Zainee.. congratulation for being the "Iron Lady" of the competition..

Hehe.. Zainee.. jgn mara eek.. saje je suke2..

later on.. Din and Akai joined for a slice of the bufday cake..

Overall.. it was a fun and entertaining outing.. it doesn't bug as much that the food isn't that good.. but to be among good friends that all it matters.. :)

p/s. As a consolation.. the venue and service at Soul'ed Out was excellent. Neva know if u didn't try.

dasyatnye land below the wind

Last week i was out of town for a product roadshow.. to be specific i was in Kota Kinabalu.. the land below the wind..

Since this is the last trip that I'll be making.. at least untill we complete another new product.. most probably in a years time.. On that note I've decided to indulge myself with a little treat >:-> So..

I've upgraded my flight to business class.. wohoo.. tapi one-way je laa kan.. kalu both ways koyak laa..

8.00 am Made the change early morning at KL Sentral and checked-in straight at the counter with the "pijak lemas" carpet.. :0 my flight was in the afternoon.. so went to office first.. besides there are other members that will be joining..

1.15 pm Off to KLIA via ERL.. in the photo from left.. my boss, pn Suriya with her son, Naj, uncle Lim (juz another passenger je tp bagi je laa name kan?) and me..

2.00 pm Reached KLIA and into the Golden Lounge..

Our flight was delayed for 30 minutes so I have additional time to enjoy.. yay!! 10 minutes before flight an announcement was made and i'd made my way towards the gate to board the aircraft.. on the boarding bridge we could see the plane right? n i was expecting a Boeing 777 but turns out i got a 737.. damn @#@%&$*&.. i'm a bit frustrated cause i specifically choose the flight to try 777 business class.. (mcm laa pernah naik yg 737 puyner)..

anyhow i took it with a pinch of salt n enjoyed the flight.. the seat was very wide n comfy.. there's about 5 inches room on the side when i'm in the seat.. 20 minutes into the flight n food from the lounge barely digesting.. they served "lunch" once again.. so now i know what the extra space on the seat is for.. it is for you to grow fat with the food they keep serving.. anyhow.. food was ok but not excellent.

6.00 pm or so touched down at Kota Kinabalu International Airport.. Shook the hand of my neighbour during flight, bid him a pleasant n successful business trip to Taipei.. met up with the guys n made a move to our Hotel.. Sutera Harbour Pacific.

Nuthing much happend that nite.. had our dinner.. photo on the right is at the waterfront where we had no idea what to eat.. rest of the nite wnet back to the hotel and explored the grounds and i must say apart from the vast facilities.. the hotel has many live music goin on simultaneously.. you can either louch at the Megalant.. hang at the Pacific or bang at the KK Club.. eventually we went to bed around midnight.. but in the morning.. Wallah!!

juz look at that view.. breath taking.. gorgeous.. can't see much the night before but in the day.. wow! "Lucky" that i've woke up early so.. had time to hit the gym.. shower.. b'fast n off to work.. by lunch we're already done n..

an imprompt agenda came up.. we called for 2 cabs which we've hooked up the night before.. n off we go to the foot of mount Kinabalu.. the journey took an hour 45 one way.. on the way stopped at Pekan Nabalu to check out the local handycrafts.. the weather is already cool at this area.. bought few stuff for da guys back home.. *hint - kindly collect ur goodies

continued our journey and another 30 minutes up* da road (*we're still climbing).. we've reached Kinabalu Park.. but the road is foggy as you can see in the photo.. everybody kept quite as an eerie feeling looms.. jeng2.. haha.. alhamdulillah.. xde pape.. so we lepak@da.park for an hour or so and had lots of photo opportunity (hmm.. most probably kena bukak photopages acc kan?) here are a few of them..

Below is a photo of mount Kinabalu hiding in da fog.. there's actually a valley down below on the left.. a waterfall.. which i'm certain it'll be very beautiful on a clear day.. anyhow took this photo at Timpohon Gate.. this is where all climb to mount Kinabalu starts..

its hard to get a good photo with the fog and all.. but if you'r patient.. you might get a glimpse of the mountain as the weather here changes every 3 minutes.. time is not our side and we had to head back to KK.. but on da way back.. saw it.. since we're on da move.. juz shoot anyway that i could n da result..

see it? on the right middle of the clouds.. well.. i guess this a way for her to say goodbye.. i believe the third time will be my lucky break to see her in full form.. we end our day by having seafood dinner at Kampung Nelayan...

Total cab fare for the day was.. jeng2.. c the meter.. haha.. that's not the actual amount.. but close (cheaper).. we were charged on a daily basis.. but dasyatkan? not every other day you could c a cab meter mahal camni..

The next day was our last at KK.. so.. time for shopping.. first stop.. n the only stop was the Philiphines Market (PM).. but i snug out for a while to the wet market to buy some.. erm ok.. lots of mushrooms.. its cheap n fresh.. great with pasta.. but when i went back to PM.. i see that the guys are in a frenzy over pearls.. nak tak nak.. i pon join.. u juz couldn't resist to buy something.. initially sikit je.. pastu.. kire akak satu.. mak satu.. anak buah.. etc2... in the end.. ka-ching!! on everage everyone spent bout RM200.. akaka.. (another hint* guys collect ur presents)

anyhow the trip was very relaxing and enjoyable.. (arrgh.. esok keje) Sabah is definately a nice place to visit.. would go there anytime to enjoy the weather.. scenery and most of all the friendly people* (big smile).. care for a vacation guys?

Thursday, 14th April 2005. Yup.. its official.. bout 8.30 pm or so.. pick up my Gen-2 at Proton Edar Seksyen 13, PJ. Afza tagged along since he has time to kill before meeting up with a friend. U can check out the car's launching at Afza's blog or so he calls it. Afza calls it "Blackie".. eventhough i didn't name it, but i think it gonna stick for a while.

I thought tat it will be a quick process collecting the car.. boy i was wrong.. it turned the other way round but for a good cause.. evidently proton has prepared a checklist to its customer to go through before handing over of the car.. so we spent 15 minutes signing documents and at least 40 minutes inspecting the car.. fiddling with all the lever and contol buttons in the car.. checking the engine.. exterior.. yadda.. yada.. u get the idea.. end point is.. it's my first new car purchase and the experience has been pleasant.

as u can see in da photo that i've chosen 1440 for my reg number.. now why did i do that? Short story is.. way back 18 years or so my family bought our first Proton.. it was a saga aeroback with reg number BCP 1440.. travel a lot in that car and there were many memories attached since it served us 10 years or so.. it wasn't the digital age yet back then so i don't think i hav a photo of the car :( i guess its a tribute to the car that served us well.. hopefully tis car will serve me good as well :)

4 days passed and i've managed to clock 490km on the odometer .. another 510km to go before its first servicing and more importantly.. the "run-in" period will be over.. well u guys.. now i finally can go anywhere on my own without hitching a ride.. but thanks u guys.. esp to Zai, Yang, Len and Afza.. for transporting me around for our activities over the years.. hope i could do the same to all u guys.. and not to forget my family as well.. for always being ther :)
